The original Nintendo Game Boy, a small machine packed with charm.

Released in 1989, it was the world's first cartridge based handheld system. Despite it's monochrome screen, the Game Boy managed to fend off its colour, backlit competitors, the Atari Lynx and Sega's Game Gear. Its small size, durable build and longer battery life meant it was far more portable than the rivals.

The secret of it's success was not attributed to hardware but to it's vast software library and quality titles such as Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda. The jewel in the Game Boy's crown, however, was Tetris... arguably the world's greatest videogame.

Blurry sprites and tinny sound, but absolutely charming.
